Inchmurrin Madeira Wood Finish

inchmurrin_madeira

Well well well, another Madeira finished whisky. I’m not shy about my love of Madeira matured whiskies. I think out of the three current official Inchmurrin bottlings this kind of ties together the funky nature of the spirit. The combination of the unusual character from the rectifier modified pot stills and the madeira finishing puts this expression way out there in terms of the flavour charts. We had this at the Inchmurrin tweet tasting and it was my favourite of the three.

Inchmurrin 18 Year Old

inchmurrin_18years

We tried this particular expression at an Inchmurrin tweet tasting along with the Inchmurrin 12 and the Inchmurrin Madeira Finish. As I’ve mentioned in the post for the Inchmurrin 12, Inchmurrin is a line of expressions from the Loch Lomond Distillery which comes from two of its special pot stills with rectifier columns fitted instead of the typical swan necks. You may not recognize the bottle as they have recently re-branded their bottlings. I quite like the new look and I suspect quite a few punters will too.

Inchmurrin 12 Year Old

Inchmurrin_12

If you are looking for an Inchmurrin distillery, look no further. It does not exist. This expression is from Loch Lomond Distillery. Aptly named as it is located near the famous Scottish loch. Loch Lomond is quite a peculiar distillery in that it has the capacity to produce a great variety of spirits. The distillery currently has 7 stills: 2 conventional stills, 4 stills with rectifier columns instead of swan necks, and a coffey still. Thus they are not only able to make malt whisky with different characters but also grain whisky. Their Inchmurrin line is produced using two of the modified rectifier stills.
